OLD BUSINESS:
- Resident Owned Communities continues to work with local parks to keep this idea relevant in our local manufactured home parks, two of which are in the South neighborhood.
- Resolution of Hundred Acre Woods and dissolution of the CCFPD! The SNA was organized in 2004, basically to represent neighbors opposed to the development of our neighborhood Chuckanut Ridge. This required lots of time and energy among neighbors and since it’s been officially protected we’ve lost a key element that brought our neighbors together.
- It’s time to discuss how we would like to proceed into the future as a neighborhood association.
NEW BUSINESS:
Steve Wilson and Christopher Grannis spoke about the strengths of our organization listed below:
- A functioning and up to date website,
- A gmail account,
- A Facebook page,
- A presence on Nextdoor,
- An email list with about 100 names,
- A 19 year history of representing our n’hood
- A strong presence on the Mayor's Neighborhood Advisory Commission over the years,
Successful Small & Simple grant history with COB, and - A wonderful meeting house space at Chuckanut Center to use once we abandon Zoom.
- Lack of board skills to maintain a website, gmail account and Facebook page,
- Low interest in board membership,
- Lack of participation from our large rental population,
- A sense of purpose for our association,’
- Moving away from Zoom and returning face-to-face for board meetings.
- The general consensus was to continue our work as a nonprofit organization and to continue outreach for more participation. Our next meeting will be January 24, 2024.
- Jessica Orr offered to assist with Facebook and future Zoom meetings. Thank you Jessica! Since most of our board is not on social media we can email relevant info to her to re-post.
- Jessica Orr also offered to join the South n’hood board of directors!!! M/S/A
- Christopher informed us that the Edgemoor neighborhood would like the South neighborhood to support their work to oppose the development on Mud Bay cliffs. It was suggested that our involvement there might help get the attention of our neighbors and support our network building.
- Monika put forth a motion ‘to write a letter to COB requiring an EIS for the Mud Bay cliffs development’. M/S/A by all board members.
- Christopher volunteered to write a letter and circulate among board members for feedback…ASAP.
- We can all continue to look for ways to make neighborhood improvements through the use of the city’s annual Small & Simple grants and to consider volunteering at Chuckanut Center or Recreation Northwest’s ongoing work at Fairhaven Park and the Hundred Acre Woods.
- Christopher is happy to continue as MNAC rep. Please convey any neighborhood issues to him so he may pass them along to city staff each month.
- Steve can continue monitoring the email and website accounts and can provide basic secretarial duties for now.
- Future meetings are envisioned as in-person events with a Zoom option. Chuckanut Center is not Wi-fi accessible but perhaps a hot spot could be established. We probably need tech help on this.
